Welcome to Charlie Longsdon Racing
After a slightly disappointing 2014/15, we definitely upped our game in the 2015/2016 season here at Hull Farm. We managed to win 62 races, operating at a strike rate of 15%, with 50% of all our runners being in the first four. Most importantly we won record prize money for the season winning over £624,000 in prize money. Yes, our good start in May last year certainly helped make the 2015/2016 season a record breaking year for us. Similarly to last year, many of the horses had another mid-season break and have gone on through until the end of May again. We did not manage to win as many as 11 races in May this year, but 6 wins has certainly helped our start to the new campaign.
As ever, there are always a few highlights to a season and this season was no different….. You have to start with our highest rated horse in Kilcooley who won another Grade 2 this year winning The West Yorkshire Hurdle by a dozen lengths. His rating went up to 164 for that win, but unfortunately we struggled to get him back to the course after that. Thankfully he is fine and will lead a strong assault on all the staying races this coming season. He was one of three winners on an unbelievable Saturday for us at the end of October. Masterplan and Pendra were the other two winners that day. Pendra won the Sodexo Gold Cup at Ascot and went on to run a ‘blinder’ in the Grand National on unsuitably soft going. He continues to be a class act and will hopefully win another big chase this coming season. Just a week after that memorable day in October, Drop Out Joe continued the good run with a fantastic win in The Badger Ales Chase at Wincanton. Killala Quay won his second Grade 2 at Kempton in February and Atlantic Gold took us off the ‘cold list’ list at Cheltenham. But again I have to mention Kilfinichen Bay. He won 4 races in the Summer of 2014 and went up 34lbs in the handicap. Well, he won another 5 this year going up a further 26lbs, making it a massive 60lbs in total and winning almost £50,000 in prize money. Now off a mark of 140 he has found his grade, so it will be very hard for him to win, but he can run in some very valuable handicaps. We are lucky that these horses along with many of the youngsters can continue to take us to the big Saturday meetings and be challenging for the most valuable prizes.
We have trained over 430 winners since I started training, but we want many more. We need to get back to the 78 winners of a few years back and having now broken the £500,000 barrier in prize money won, we need to consistently break the £600,000 barrier and be challenging for more big prizes on a Saturday. The new 2 furlong gallop we put in a year ago has been a fantastic addition to the yard and we will continue to find ways to improve our facilities here at Hull Farm.
We have a growing team, who are extremely dedicated and ambitious. We pride ourselves on relaxed, happy, healthy horses and believe this is shown in the results. We have a fantastic set of owners, most of whom have been with us since the early stages of his career and they help to make Charlie Longsdon Racing a very close knit team.
If you would like to become part of Charlie Longsdon Racing, please get in contact, as we would love to see you and show off our new and exciting yard!!
